There are parts of New York that are very rich in cool cafes, and others that are poor. Unfortunately, one of the most coffee house deprived neighborhoods is the Financial District. Luckily, there's Klatch Coffee (9 Maiden Lane Financial District), with an atmosphere as cute as their coffee is strong.
